Abstract

This article aims to discuss teaching in Latin American countries, not in the scope of initial and continuing training of teachers in the perspective of the teaching career. The debate percorres or brings about the changes that occurred in the world after two great world wars, causing significant transformations in society, such as the new school paradigms and the different forms of teaching attuação, taking into account the historical, social, economic, cultural and geographical context in which the professionals are inserted. In this view, the research problem consists of the investigation: how has the teaching profession been configured in Latin America in recent decades, considering the dimensions of initial training, continued training and a teaching career? This is a qualitative research with descriptive classification, whose method used was a bibliographic review.  In our considerations, we highlight that educational models in Latin America reflect political and economic interests that directly impact initial and continued training, as well as salary conditions, reverberating in professions, revealing the influence of educational policies on the structure and organization of professions. in the region.
