Forensic dentistry, an emerging field, has greatly benefited from technological advancements, particularly with the application of digital technologies such as digital radiography, computed tomography, three-dimensional modeling, and artificial intelligence, which have increased the accuracy of dental evidence evaluation and significantly aided investigations into unrecognized or disfigured victims. This study investigates the benefits, challenges, and effects of these technologies on victim identification and forensic evidence generation, highlighting their importance in improving legal dentistry practices. The research was based on 14 articles obtained from Scielo, PubMed, and the Virtual Health Library between 2020 and 2025, using descriptors such as "Digital Technologies," "Legal Dentistry," "Human Identification," "Dental Data Analysis," and "Forensic Processes." The results indicate a growing integration of these technologies, demonstrating their transformation in legal dentistry, particularly in post-mortem identification procedures. The incorporation of digital technologies such as intraoral scanning, facial-odontometric evaluation, and three-dimensional modeling has enabled greater accuracy, speed, and reliability in human identification methods, revolutionizing forensic practice. In conclusion, digital forensic dentistry is an innovative and multidisciplinary field that, as it progresses, will become more accessible and regulated. Investing in digital tools and training programs for professionals in the field is essential to enhance the effectiveness and accuracy of investigations, positively impacting human identification and strengthening forensic practices, especially in complex scenarios.
