Wildlife trafficking is a criminal activity that threatens biodiversity and environmental balance, causing economic and social impacts. Brazil's rich biodiversity facilitates the exploitation of vulnerable communities and the fragility of enforcement. This issue aligns with the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), addressing the protection of terrestrial ecosystems, poverty eradication, and strengthening institutions. Trafficking not only exacerbates biodiversity loss but also poses a public health risk, such as zoonoses, as evidenced during the COVID-19 pandemic. Commercialization, including through digital, requires enhanced enforcement strategies. Effective combat demands integrated and coordinated public policies, institutional facilities, environmental education, and economic alternatives for affected communities, promoting sustainable development and environmental preservation.
