This study was conducted in the wood processing industries in the municipality of Lábrea, Amazonas, aiming to diagnose the working conditions and evaluate the level of instruction of workers regarding health and safety in the workplace. The methodology was based on the application of semi-structured questionnaires to managers and workers from the enterprises, as well as systematic observations made during technical visits to identify aspects related to hygiene, occupational risks, and work environment conditions. The following dimensions were addressed: characterization of the industries, worker profile, work environment conditions, identification of accident risk factors, and analysis of the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The data revealed that 60% of the establishments visited are woodworking shops, and all workers lack specific training in health and safety at work, as well as training for the proper use of machinery. It was also found that the level of education is predominantly low, with only 1% of workers having higher education. The most common deficiencies observed were insufficient lighting, inadequate machine placement, and disorganized layout. Regarding the use of PPE, 66.67% of the workers reported using it, but only one-third demonstrated knowledge of its correct usage. The results highlight a concerning scenario where environmental risk factors, low professional qualification, and structural deficiencies contribute to the increase in workplace accidents in the wood processing industries in the region.
