Introduction: Neonatal Intensive Care Units are specialized centers that provide specific care, adequate infrastructure, cutting-edge technology, and qualified staff, all aimed at caring for newborns (NBs) in critical condition or at high risk. Objective: To identify the different types of methodologies for implementing humanized care and contextualize the importance of humanization in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to improve newborn recovery and family bonding. Methodology: This is a literature review, carried out between August 2024 and April 2025, with analysis of studies in the LILACS, SciELO, and PUBMED databases. Therefore, the guiding question is: How important is humanized work in the newborn's recovery process? Thus, the following descriptors were used: “Humanization”; “Neonatal Intensive Care Unit”; and “Kangaroo Method” verified by the Health Science Descriptors (DeCS). The inclusion criteria included free publications in Portuguese and English from 2020 to 2024. The exclusion criteria included incomplete works published in previous periods, monographs, reports and dissertations. After compiling the most relevant articles, the works were analyzed and reviewed, and the data were arranged in tables and charts for later discussion. Results and discussion: The results were presented concisely, prioritizing clarity over humanization. Humanization refers to a set of practices and principles that aim to improve behaviors in relation to already consolidated ideas, promoting quality in health services. The participation of health professionals in the discussion process is essential and must have the ongoing involvement of management. In addition, the PNH supports initiatives that seek to develop technologies that promote respectful and ethical care, ensuring a welcome that benefits the relationship between patient, family and health professionals.
