The main objective of this article is to analyze the (in)effectiveness of the ruling of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR) in the case Favela Nova Brasília v. Brazil, handed down in 2017, which condemned the Brazilian State for human rights violations that occurred during police raids in the 1990s. The research, of a qualitative, quantitative and descriptive nature, uses documentary and bibliographic analysis to investigate the developments and challenges in the investigation of police violence in Brazil, as well as to assess compliance with the reparation measures and guarantees of non-repetition determined by the IACHR. The results show that, despite some progress, the Brazilian State still faces significant obstacles in overcoming police violence and ensuring that State agents are effectively held accountable for their actions. The persistence of a pattern of human rights violations and the slow implementation of the measures determined by the IACHR require joint action by State agencies and civil society to build a more just and democratic public security model in the country.
