This article presents the results of an investigation carried out with the aim of identifying the discursive representations about water issues in an illustrated children's literature book. Discussions on socio-environmental issues involving rivers in large urban centers across the planet and discussions on their natural mischaracterization and association with the pejorative term “Walloon” are presented. The analysis of the selected work was carried out based on the description of the work, followed by the analysis of the verbal text, from the perspective of Social Semiotics of Critical Discourse Analysis and the analysis of social practice. The discussions consider the representation of the war between industrial pollution and rivers, highlighting the inequality between production systems and river rights. The metaphor discursively represents how pollution disproportionately affects the entities and subjects involved.
