Abstract

Introduction: Childhood is a crucial phase for the development of eating habits that can influence health throughout life. In recent decades, there has been an increasing prevalence of childhood obesity, which has raised concerns, since obese children have a higher risk of developing chronic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and dyslipidemia, even in childhood. In this context, the fundamental role of nursing in promoting healthy eating habits stands out, contributing to the prevention of these conditions and improving the quality of life of children. Methodology: this is an integrative literature review, which will be carried out through BDENF, SCIELO and LILACS. The bibliographic research was conducted using specific keywords related to the theme, such as: Nursing Care; Child; Educational Interventions; Disease Prevention. The research was guided by the question: How does the role of nursing in nutritional education contribute to the promotion of healthy eating habits in children? The inclusion criteria for the materials in the review were: publications published between 2019 and 2024, available in full text, in Portuguese, and addressing the proposed topic. Studies that were not available in full, published before 2019, or that were not directly related to the focus of the research were excluded. The data were presented through tables and charts, and compared with the available literature. Results and discussion: Nursing plays a fundamental role in promoting children's health, especially in the formation of healthy eating habits and in the prevention of diseases. Nurses work in different contexts, such as schools, basic health units, and in individualized monitoring, ensuring nutritional education for children and their families. Strategies such as educational programs, guidance for parents, use of interactive technologies, and personalized practices to raise awareness about the importance of a balanced diet and the prevention of childhood obesity. Thus, nursing is consolidated as an essential ally in promoting health and building healthy eating habits from childhood. Conclusion: Nursing is essential in promoting healthy eating habits in childhood, participating through education, family involvement and innovative strategies to prevent diseases and strengthen child health.
