In recent decades, Brazil has experienced a significant increase in cesarean rates, far exceeding the recommendations of the World Health Organization. Cascavel, in the state of Paraná, is no exception to this trend, reflecting a marked transition in obstetric practice. This transformation, influenced by various cultural, social, and clinical factors, raises concerns about the quality of maternal and child healthcare and the potential consequences for the health of women and newborns. Given the importance of this scenario, a study has become necessary to analyze the epidemiological characteristics of delivery methods, utilizing data on the number of births per year, type of delivery, among others, through data collection from the Department of Information and Informatics of the Unified Health System (DATASUS), framed within the Live Birth Information System (SINASC) for a better understanding of the landscape of cesarean and vaginal delivery rates in Cascavel/PR. The results indicate a significant prevalence of cesareans, which were more common among older women with higher levels of education, of white and yellow ethnicity, who attended more prenatal consultations, and for whom births were preterm. Thus, it is believed that this information may assist in the development of public health strategies aimed at improving the quality of maternal and neonatal care in the municipality. This study hopes to provide important insights for the formulation of more effective health policies centered on the needs of the population, contributing to the promotion of safer and more humanized obstetric practices.
