This article sought to identify the main difficulties students face in learning Mathematics, which are even more aggravated in remote or hybrid classes due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the difficulties faced by teachers who teach Mathematics in these new teaching modalities. As research objectives, we sought to identify the main difficulties faced by students and teachers in teaching and learning Mathematics in these class modalities and propose alternative methodologies that contribute to these processes. Our research was conducted in public schools in the state of Campina Grande, Paraíba. The research was conducted with students and teachers from elementary and high school classes. This is a qualitative and quantitative research, in which we applied questionnaires to students and teachers. We were able to verify that digital applications are little used in Mathematics classes, although they use technological resources, and for several reasons. In addition, some trends in Mathematics Education are still unknown to teachers. With the analysis and discussion of the research data, we constructed a proposal for alternative methodologies using free digital applications applied to trends in Mathematics Education in an attempt to contribute to the teaching and learning processes with quality teaching and more effective learning.
