This article analyzed the prevalence of childhood obesity in Brazil and the effectiveness of nutritional strategies in Basic Care for its prevention and management. The study evaluated data from the Food and Nutritional Surveillance System (SISVAN) and DATASUS between 2017 and 2022, which allowed us to understand regional variations in the occurrence of childhood obesity and adherence to intervention programs. The investigation identified that the prevalence of obesity is greater in the South Region and lower in the North Region, while the implementation of the Childhood Obesity Prevention and Care Strategy (Proteja) presents disparities between the regions, being more significant in the Southeast. Furthermore, structural difficulties, challenges in access to healthy foods and the need for training of healthcare professionals were observed. The article discusses the importance of equitable and integrated public policies that can guarantee the effectiveness of preventive and management actions, considering the impact of childhood obesity on broad-based health. In this way, the need for interdisciplinary strategies and continuous monitoring of the measures adopted to ensure a sustainable and efficient coping with this condition in Brazil is reinforced.
