WITH DIABETES MELITUS 2: A LITERATURE REVIEW

Type II Diabetes is a chronic disease that affects children worldwide. Treatment for the disease in children involves lifestyle changes and, in some cases, medication. Children also need regular health care and monitoring of their blood sugar levels. However, with proper treatment and the support of their parents and health professionals, children with Type II Diabetes can lead a healthy and active life. Objective: To identify through literature the importance of lifestyle changes for the survival of children with Type II Diabetes Mellitus. Methodology: This work is an integrative literature review of qualitative method, which aimed to make a theoretical survey in order to clarify relevant points of the clinical approach to childhood Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. The research question was: What challenges are faced in the non- pharmacological treatment of children with Type 2 DM? The search for articles was conducted in the electronic databases Literatura Latino-Americana em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS) and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) and MEDLINE using selected keywords according to the classification of Health Science Descriptors (DeCS): Diabetes Mellitus Type 2, Child, Treatment, Health Care, Risk Factors. The inclusion criteria were full online scientific articles available in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, published between 2019 and 2022, in order to identify evidence of the theme in question. Results: 10 articles were selected for the construction of the work. Final considerations: It is concluded that non-pharmacological approaches and healthy lifestyle changes are effective strategies for the treatment and prevention of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in children.
