Abstract

This article is a literary review to highlight environmental legislation's relevance in the Brazilian context. Brazil stands out as a global example concerning environmental standards. The methodology was based on reviewing articles and reading federal and state laws. Historical records demonstrate the existence of the first environmental legislation since the colonial and imperial periods, created to regulate the exploitation of natural resources. We consider Article 225 of the 1988 Federal Constitution as a landmark in our legislation, which states that everyone has the right to an ecologically balanced environment, imposing on public authorities the duty to preserve it. After carrying out a literary review, we concluded that Brazil is an important country on the global stage for having such rich and robust legislation within the environmental scenario.
