Abstract

This work brings an approach to the importance of using active methodologies in the teaching-learning process, in order to promote a dynamic, stimulating and student-centered learning environment, given that the constant changes and evolutions in which society is undergoing immersed, requires more and more people with autonomy and proactivity. Therefore, educational institutions also need to develop innovative strategies that follow the dynamics and needs of society. By adopting the use of active methodology approaches, teachers can increase student engagement, promote deeper learning and develop essential skills for professional success while meeting the needs of today's society. The objective of this Paper is, therefore, to discuss active methodologies, as well as what Peer Instruction methodology is, and how to use such methodology in the classroom, both in face-to-face classes and online classes. The Peer Instruction methodology is a pedagogical approach developed by professor Eric Mazur, from Harvard University in the 1990s, which aims to emphasize active student participation in the classroom.
