Abstract

This article investigates the impact of smartphones in the school environment, based on a study conducted with a Portuguese Language teacher, a pedagogical coordinator, and a student from a State Integral Citizen School in the hinterland of Paraíba. Examining the perceptions of smartphone use as pedagogical tools and their challenges in the classroom, the study reveals that, when used consciously and structured, smartphones have great potential to enrich the teaching-learning process, facilitating activities such as research, educational games, and access to online resources. However, improper use can lead to distractions, compromising students' attention and cognitive performance. The article also discusses the challenges and opportunities brought by technology in the educational process, highlighting the need for effective strategies to balance the pedagogical advantages of these devices and mitigate their negative effects, promoting a conscious and productive use of technology in the school environment.
