This study explored the main challenges and benefits of implementing collaborative learning, particularly in virtual learning environments. The objective was to analyze the theories and practices of this pedagogical approach, highlighting the challenges faced and the advantages perceived by students and educators. A bibliographic approach was employed, reviewing relevant studies and articles on the topic. The study examined the contributions of collaborative learning to the teaching-learning process, focusing on social interactions and the use of digital technologies as supporting tools. Significant challenges, such as managing student interactions and adapting assessment methods, were identified. Despite these difficulties, the findings revealed that virtual learning environments can enhance student engagement and foster dynamic, interactive learning. The conclusions emphasized that while collaborative learning has demonstrated positive outcomes, proper teacher training and tailored assessment strategies are crucial for its success. Furthermore, the study suggested further research to deepen the understanding of collaboration and assessment management practices in this educational context.
