THE PARANÁ MILITARY POLICE AND THE CONFRONTATION OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: IMPACTS OF THE MARIA DA PENHA LAW ON POLICE ACTIONS

Abstract

Cases of violence against women are high in the state of Paraná; the Military Police has an important role in acting in this context. The objective of this article is to understand and analyze the intervention of the Military Police of the State of Paraná in confronting gender violence and whether the Maria da Penha Patrol has enhanced the institution's performance in combating this type of crime. This is a descriptive review of the literature, through consultations of previously published materials made available in specific databases and other publications. It was possible to observe that, despite the high number of occurrences associated with domestic violence in the state of Paraná, the Maria de Penha Law has a significant impact on the performance of the Military Police, since a reduction in occurrences has been observed due to the actions of this institution, specifically in relation to the actions of the Maria da Penha Patrol, in addition to the investment in structure, equipment and personnel training, relevant interventions in promoting the safety of victims. Therefore, it is possible to affirm that the actions of the Military Police of the State of Paraná reflect an optimized confrontation of domestic violence.
