This article addresses racism as one of the deepest wounds in society, highlighting the historical impact of colonisation and the persistence of scars among blacks and mestizos, particularly in Brazil. It also aims to criticise the denial of racism and stresses the importance of discussing this issue in the classroom, proposing the study of history from the perspective of black authors. Law 10.639/03 is mentioned as a milestone in the visibility of the true history of black people in Brazil, based on the development of ethno-racial education, although its implementation still faces challenges, such as the predominant use of teaching materials with a European focus. The decolonization of the curriculum and the promotion of representativeness in schools are seen as fundamental measures to address this issue.
