The purpose of this study is a critical analysis, aiming to understand the risks that professionals working in the area of Public Prison Security are exposed to, as well as to relate the main findings of mental disorders with the possible factors that contribute to the development and aggravation of diseases. It was noted that the most relevant mental disorders affecting the mental health of police officers were: depression, anxiety disorders and burnout syndrome. Among the related factors, we can highlight the long working hours and the pressure suffered by these agents by security institutions and society. Finally, it is concluded about the importance of strategies for the inclusion of the debate related to the mental health of the Criminal Police Officer, as soon as they start their career, promoting psychological monitoring for the prevention and treatment of the mental disorders to which the Criminal Police Officer is exposed.
