POLITICS AND SOCIAL MEDIA: LEGAL REGULATION AND CHALLENGES IN THE ERA OF HYPERCONNECTIVITY

In the current situation, the progress made in the digital sphere has brought about the need for adjustments in the scope of Electoral Law, requiring the regulation of relationships established in elections. The presentation of political content on social networks, in recent elections, gained prominence, due to the possibility of broad reach and influence on electoral behavior. Considering this, the general objective of this work was to understand the challenges and legal implications of promoting political content on social networks. The methodology adopted was a bibliographical research in articles, monographs, dissertations and legal documents that deal with the subject studied. The research results showed that legal regulation is proposed, especially with regard to offensive, lying and manipulated electoral messages; the balance between freedom of expression and freedom of content; adoption of standards for the mediation of published information; among others. In view of this, it was concluded that the boost of paid content used by candidate.
