In the contemporary world, it is possible to observe the influence of paternal absence on children's self-esteem and interpersonal relationships. In an introductory way, it will be possible to analyze how these factors influence a child's life. The objective of this article seeks to promote a more comprehensive and empathetic understanding of traumatic experiences generated in children, seeking to offer support to individuals going through this journey. The methodology of this article works with qualitative research and is based on data collection methods more focused on communication than on logical or statistical procedures and allows a bibliographic review with syntheses of existing knowledge and the identification of gaps in the topic. The databases were selected for search as PubMed, PsycINFO, Brasil Scientific Electronic (Scielo), with inclusion and exclusion criteria with articles dating back 5 years and books dating back 10 years. In the discussion, the impacts that paternal absence can have on the child were investigated, as well as the tendency for increased rates of paternal absence, as reported by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). Possible outcomes include an understanding of the psychological and social impacts of paternal absence on children's lives. It is hoped that this study will provide valuable insights for mental health professionals, educators, and parents, helping them recognize and address the challenges faced by children coping with father absence. Furthermore, it is hoped that this study will contribute to understanding its effects and is essential to promote the well-being and healthy development of these young people.
