ANESTHETIC CONSIDERATIONS IN CESAREAN SECTION AND THEIR IMPACT ON MATERNAL AND NEONATAL HEALTH

Abstract

This article examines anesthetic considerations during cesarean sections and their impact on maternal and neonatal health. As one of the most common surgeries in obstetrics, cesarean delivery requires a meticulous anesthetic approach to minimize risks and achieve optimal outcomes. Through a review of recognized guidelines, such as those from the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the Brazilian Society of Anesthesiology, we discuss the most common anesthetic techniques, including general and regional anesthesia. When indicated, regional anesthesia offers benefits regarding maternal recovery and neonatal well-being, whereas general anesthesia may be associated with complications. Thus, it is concluded that the appropriate choice of anesthetic technique, based on rigorous clinical evaluation and updated guidelines, is essential to ensure the safety and health of both mothers and infants during cesarean procedures.
