Technological advances have grown exponentially in recent times. Children are increasingly beginning to use and master technological devices, such as tablets, smartphones and TVs, at an earlier age. From birth, they are exposed to and involved in situations in front of screens and, therefore, are part of the generation known as “digital natives”. This article aims to analyze the impact of excessive screen time in childhood. Excessive use can cause negative consequences in child development, such as extreme fatigue, anxiety, depression, chronic stress, concentration problems. In addition, it can be associated with the risk of obesity, eating difficulties, sleep disorders and psychological difficulties. According to studies, children who suffer the consequences of screen time tend to maintain an excessive connection to electronic devices, which hinders essential tasks and the involvement in other activities such as play, social and family interaction. Although the content on treatment in the literature is still somewhat scarce and not standardized, psychotherapy is seen as a more effective form of treatment, with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) being widely cited. This theoretical approach focuses on cognitive beliefs and distortions, which end up having an effect on behavior. It is extremely important that recommendations regarding the appropriate amount of time for children to use screens are followed, and use should be supervised to ensure that the content accessed is compatible with the age group. It is worth noting that there are few existing studies that mention and delve into studying possible treatments for childhood screen addiction.
