The objective of this article was to analyze the consequences of stress and violence on the mental health of military police officers in the state of Paraná. The methodology used to prepare this article was a descriptive review of exploratory literature, based on consultations of various previously published materials. It can be understood that the main motivations inherent to the mental health of police officers, specifically military personnel, are directly related to the dehumanization of the work of these professionals, a behavior resulting from society itself and the State, which tends to have a negative perception of their work, conceiving it as an oppressive hand of the State; and by the failure to recognize the needs of police officers, respectively, neglecting them not only in terms of material structure, but mainly in developing care programs that perceive them as human beings, which do not see them as a problem in the face of their health problems and adversities. The consequence of this reality is the etiology of mental disorders, such as depression, anxiety and, in more severe cases, suicide. It draws attention to the need to develop policies aimed at preventing and treating police officers at risk. It is necessary for the State to recognize this condition and start acting in a more humane manner, and to act externally to value this professional in society, giving them support when attacked, degraded and criminalized under circumstances within the legal provisions.
