This research aims to investigate the relation between child neglect and cognitive development from a cognitive-behavioral perspective. The research was conducted through a qualitative bibliographic review, analyzing existing literature on the impacts of child neglect on cognitive skills such as memory, attention, and problem-solving skills. Additionally, the emotional and behavioral effects were identified, including the propensity for developing disorders such as depression and anxiety. The study also explores the effectiveness of Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) as an intervention capable of minimizing the damage caused by child neglect. It concludes that, beyond therapeutic strategies, the implementation of preventive public policies is essential to ensure the integral development of children, as provided by the Statute of the Child and Adolescent (ECA).
