Good management is of utmost importance in any segment, and in hospital management it takes on an even greater connotation because it involves lives and the development of work carried out within the institution, and therefore, qualified professionals are required for the positions. Nurses, in addition to being able to work clinically, that is, directly with the client, can become managers, whether in a simple way, such as managing their team, materials, defining shifts, among others, or in a complex way, as a manager of hospitals and larger locations, covering several sectors. Therefore, the question that guides this research is: How important is the role of the nurse in hospital management? The general objective of this research is to understand the role of the nursing professional in the management of Brazilian hospitals. The specific objectives are: To contextualize hospital management; To identify the role of the nurse in management; To describe the benefits of the role of nurses in hospital management. The work will be developed through bibliographic research, using articles found in databases such as: Virtual Library, Latin American Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), Virtual Health Library (BVS), and books. The expected result from the conclusion of the research is to understand the role of the nursing professional as a manager of a hospital institution, highlighting the importance that this has for the administration of hospitals, but also to understand what management is in itself, what is necessary for the professional to be able to manage a hospital, and the role that the nurse plays in this context.
