Abstract

Introduction Domestic violence is a complex social and public health problem that needs to be widely debated and combated through efficient public policies. The Maria da Penha Law has emerged as an important legal instrument for the defense of women. It is important to highlight the importance of the nursing team in providing care, through humanized and, above all, respectful and ethical care. The objectives are: To characterize the types of domestic violence; To analyze the strategies for caring for women who are victims of domestic violence; To discuss the panorama of domestic violence against women. Methodological Aspects: The methodological approach is the Integrative Literature Review, developed through the Virtual Health Library (VHL), using the Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS): “Nursing Care”, “Domestic Violence”, “Victims of Domestic Violence”. The inclusion criteria were complete works, such as articles, theses and dissertations, published in the last five years in Portuguese, English or Spanish, and those that were incomplete or published more than five years ago were excluded. Results and discussions: The bibliographic survey pointed to the fact that domestic violence is a serious and complex problem that requires effective public policies for its prevention and confrontation, with primary care emerging in this context as a gateway, welcoming and listening to women who are victims of domestic violence. Conclusions: It is possible to conclude that nurses play an important role in the care of women who are victims of domestic violence, especially in Primary Health Care, acting in listening and welcoming these women and referring them to other points of care. However, it is necessary to highlight the challenges in providing care to women who are victims of domestic violence, whether due to lack of preparation, prejudice or even the fact that sometimes the woman herself does not admit the violence she has suffered, hindering its proper progress, both in the care and legal spheres.
