Introduction: Kidney failure is a problem that has long been gaining prominence in the health of Brazil and the world, as its prevalence increases as the population ages. Objective: To present the epidemiology of hospitalizations and deaths due to kidney failure in the Northeast region of Brazil between 2008 and 2023. Methodology: This is a descriptive, retrospective study with a quantitative approach. Data were collected from the DATASUS Platform and organized in Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, where they were analyzed using simple descriptive statistics. Result: A significant increase in hospitalizations (40.07%) and deaths (93.65%) was identified in absolute numbers during the period, with a predominance among men, especially in the older age groups, with brown skin color/race being the most affected. Conclusion: The increase in hospitalization and death rates reflect a progression of the disease, as well as a possible difficulty in accessing more appropriate care. Such evidence suggests the need for public policies focused on prevention, early diagnosis and expansion of health infrastructure.
