ELDORADO DO SUL – A LITERATURE REVIEW ABOUT A DEVASTATED CITY. GRIEF FOR INVISIBLE LOSSES: THE CONTRIBUTION OF PSYCHOLOGY IN THE GRIEF PROCESS ABOUT A DEVASTATED CITY

Abstract

This article aims to focus on psychological issues and the contribution of psychology, which can be of utmost importance when used in a humanized manner, in the context of natural disasters and their consequences, with the aim of bringing to light the problems of an entire city devastated by a natural disaster. This work is concerned with exposing the anguish surrounding a collective mourning, but formerly called invisible mourning, which occurs through the loss of material goods, in many cases being compared and minimized in the face of the loss of life. The main purpose is to take the reader to a chronological reading of the events that occurred in the city of Eldorado do Sul, during the month of May, when the city was completely devastated by the flood, devastating its residents and leaving hundreds of homes vacated. It also focuses on analyzing mourning from a psychoanalytic perspective and the management of mourning in question, entitled “mourning of invisible losses,” developing, through psychoanalysis, the means of dealing with the pain and suffering caused by such a catastrophe. This article also presents, in chronological order, such losses related to the city most affected by the floods in Rio Grande do Sul, aiming to demonstrate the hardships behind a city submerged by water and its psychological trail of destruction, aiming at the contribution of psychology in this process of working through mourning.
