Endodontics is a dental specialty dedicated to the treatment and prevention of infections of the pulp complex, requiring appropriate care in instrumentation and irrigation, as well as prior examinations, such as radiographs and intracanal medication. Hormonal and physiological changes during pregnancy can cause several oral problems, and it is important to adopt dental follow-up procedures for monitoring and prevention. However, fear, lack of knowledge or lack of access to dental services can worsen clinical conditions and delay necessary treatments. In pregnant women, Endodontics must take additional care to prevent risks and complications to the mother-fetus binomial, and it is important to observe the patient's position, prescribe medications and minimize exposure to radiation. The objective of this research was to investigate the specific requirements regarding endodontic treatment during pregnancy, verifying the importance of dental care for pregnant women in the Basic Health Unit as an integral part of promoting family health. This was a qualitative, basic, descriptive bibliographic review that used scientific studies, books and legislation to produce its foundation. The results found reinforce the importance of trained professionals to care for pregnant women in a safe and effective manner, providing the additional care necessary to prevent risks to the mother and baby, such as complementary exams, avoidance of exposure or minimal exposure to radiation, selection of permitted medication use, among others. The research concluded by recognizing the importance of proper awareness regarding prenatal dental care for pregnant and postpartum women.
