Abstract

Introduction: The intention of the National Humanization Policy reaffirms the foundations of the Unified Health System (SUS) in health care, involving users, workers and management based on continuous training. The practice of the PNH for elderly health balances the activities of promoting, preventing, assisting and rehabilitating, aiming to contribute positively to the natural and pathological aging process. When providing comprehensive care, nursing must consider respect and acceptance according to the individualities, beliefs and values of each user, in accordance with ethical and moral values, as well as professional and organizational duties and rights. Objective: analyze nursing care regarding the health of the elderly. Methodology: This is a literature review, which was addressed as an exploratory and descriptive study. The present study will have the following guiding question: How is nursing care provided for the health of the elderly? Data collection took place in April and May of this year through the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Virtual Health Library (VHL) and Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (Lilacs) databases, using the descriptors: “humanization”, “nursing”, “elderly health” verified by (Decs) Health Sciences Descriptors, to which the Boolean operator AND will be used. Results and discussion: it is essential to adopt strategies that contemplate the elderly in their entirety, considering their physical, emotional, social and cognitive needs. In this way, it is possible to offer personalized and quality treatment, promoting well-being and dignity in the care of the elderly. Final considerations: It is important to guarantee the well-being of the elderly population in an integral way, considering the individualities of each one. The humanization of care is a practice that requires empathy, attention and constant adaptations.
