This paper reports on the clinical challenge presented by endodontic treatment in permanent teeth with incomplete root formation. The complexity involved in these cases requires an in-depth understanding of the techniques used, as well as a critical evaluation of the intracanal medications employed. These teeth have anatomical characteristics such as thin dentinal walls, open apex, divergent canal, incomplete root and unfavorable crown-root relationship, which make root canal treatment difficult and directly influence the success of endodontic treatment. Are dentists adequately trained to diagnose and treat permanent teeth with incomplete root formation? The general objective of the study is to evaluate the training of these professionals, considering the techniques, medications and clinical protocols available. The specific objectives are to analyze the advantages and limitations of the treatment techniques, investigate the intracanal medications commonly used and present effective clinical protocols for endodontic treatment in patients with incomplete root formation. The methodology adopted is exploratory, integrating qualitative and quantitative methods for an understanding of endodontic treatment, in the SCIELO and PUBMED databases based exclusively on scientific studies, without conducting field interviews. The expected results include a comprehensive view of specific anatomy and physiology, identification of advantages and limitations in existing techniques, an analysis of intracanal medications and practical recommendations to optimize clinical protocols. This work aims to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the area and offer subsidies for a more informed and effective endodontic practice in cases of incomplete rhizogenesis.
