VIOLAÇÕES DOS DIREITOS HUMANOS NO SISTEMA PRISIONAL BRASILEIRO: O CASO DO COMPLEXO PENITENCIÁRIO DE PEDRINHAS EM SÃO LUÍS- MARANHÃO

Abstract

The article aims to analyze and understand the reality of the penitentiary system in Brazil from the case of the Pedrinhas Penitentiary Complex and the human rights violations in the period between 2013 - 2015. For this purpose, the objective is to build arguments for the following problem: “Do human rights violations in the case of Pedrinhas affect the commitments made by Brazil?” Thus, the research will gather data and information to be related to theoretical studies in order to understand the subject and how the violations have occurred. Therefore, it is concluded that the legal guarantees to which Brazil is subject have been breached with regard to guaranteeing the rights of people under restrictive measures of freedom.
