Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the role and intervention of nurses in patient safety, focusing on risk prevention during hospital-based care. A narrative literature review was conducted, addressing topics such as the history of patient safety, Brazilian standards and regulations, safety models applied to nursing, and practices and protocols within the hospital setting. The results indicate that nurses play a central role in implementing safe practices and preventing adverse events, engaging not only in protocol application but also in educating the team and patients. It is concluded that nurses’ involvement is essential to ensuring quality and safety in hospital care, significantly contributing to the strengthening of patient trust and well-being.
