Abstract

The European Union (EU) is widely recognized as one of the most successful peace projects in modern history, consolidating stability in a continent historically marked by wars. This article examines the importance of the EU in maintaining permanent peace in Europe, from its founding principles to contemporary challenges. The analysis highlights the main mechanisms of economic and political cooperation within the EU, the role of the Common Security and Defense Policy (CSDP), and peacekeeping operations outside European borders. Furthermore, it addresses obstacles faced by the EU, including the rise of nationalism, Brexit, and divergent interests in security matters. The article concludes that, despite these challenges, the European Union remains a model for enduring peace, contingent on its capacity to adapt and reinforce cohesion among Member States.
