ROLE OF THE REHABILITATION NURSE IN THE RECOVERY PROCESS AND IN THE QUALITY OF CARE PROVIDED TO POST-STROKE PATIENTS

Framework: Stroke is a clinical condition that can result in numerous physical and cognitive disabilities, requiring a differentiated and specialized multidisciplinary approach in the rehabilitation and empowerment process, where the Rehabilitation Nursing Specialist Nurse plays a critical role. Objective: To understand the role of the Rehabilitation Nursing Specialist Nurse in the recovery and rehabilitation process and in improving the quality of care provided to post-stroke individuals. Methodology: Integrative literature review article, with research conducted through the MEDLINE, B-On, and ScienceDirect databases, covering studies from 2020 to 2024 to respond to the proposed objective. Results: The scientific evidence analyzed highlights that Rehabilitation Nursing is fundamental in promoting early functionality, facilitating the person’s transition back to daily life, and empowering informal caregivers, family members, and general care nurses. Conclusion: This study reinforces the importance of the Rehabilitation Nursing Specialist Nurse in the care of post-stroke patients, underscoring their contribution to the functional recovery and quality of life of those affected. Investing in the training and recognition of these professionals is crucial to ensure a comprehensive and effective approach throughout the rehabilitation process, promoting better health and well-being outcomes for patients and their families, which translates into health gains.
