Blunt chest trauma is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in multiple trauma patients, with a high rate of respiratory and cardiovascular complications. Early surgical intervention has been widely discussed as an important approach in the management of patients with severe blunt chest trauma. This study aims to perform an integrative literature review to evaluate the results of early surgical interventions in patients with blunt chest trauma, analyzing the implications for mortality, morbidity, and functional recovery. The research includes clinical studies, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses that address the advantages and limitations of early surgical interventions, such as thoracotomy, chest tube drainage, and other therapeutic strategies. The results suggest that, when performed in a timely manner, these interventions can significantly reduce mortality, improve respiratory outcomes, and prevent subsequent complications. However, choosing the appropriate timing for surgical intervention and patient selection are critical factors that impact outcomes. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the current evidence and highlights the importance of early surgical management to optimize outcomes in patients with blunt chest trauma.
