Abstract

This article, based on a doctoral research study, aimed to present the role and contribution of caregivers for Special Education students from the perspective of Inclusive Education, focusing on the challenges and opportunities for the continuous training of these professionals within the Public Municipal Education Network of Dias d'Ávila, Bahia. The study was conducted in two reference schools, Escola Municipal Madre Diamantina and Escola Municipal Carlos Drummond de Andrade, which lead eight other institutions and involve 56 professionals from different fields. The research sought to identify the challenges faced by caregivers, their level of training and years of experience, as well as their knowledge and difficulties in performing their duties, in addition to suggestions for improving their work with students. The results highlight the importance of Inclusive Education as a collective responsibility and emphasize the need for public policies to ensure equal access to special education. The methodology included a qualitative approach, participant observation, semi-structured questionnaires, and content analysis. The conclusion emphasizes the urgency of continuous training, regulation, and investment to overcome barriers and promote inclusion with quality and equity.
