Abstract

Gingivoperiosteoplasty (GPP) is a surgical technique performed on patients with cleft lip and palate (CLP), which is defined as a congenital deformity generated by a malformation of the middle third of the face. GPP replaces the soft tissue of the alveolar fissure with a gingivoperiosteal tunnel, which facilitates bone healing through guided tissue regeneration (GTR), without the need for bone grafting. The objective of this work is to carry out a literature review through analyzes of gingivoperiosteoplasty in several studies, with the purpose of spreading knowledge about the technique and its benefits to patients' health. A literature review was carried out with the aim of describing the gingivoperiosteoplasty technique in the treatment of cleft patients, using articles from the National Library of Medicine (PubMed), Scientific Electronic Library (SciELO), Google Scholar platforms. The researchers concluded that gingivoperiosteoplasty plays an important role in the treatment process for cleft patients. The available data on the benefits of GPP are favorable, but more studies on this topic need to be carried out.
