Abstract

This article aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of physiotherapeutic interventions in invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) in critically ill patients admitted to intensive care units (ICU). A systematic review of the literature was conducted, analyzing studies published between 2015 and 2024 in the PubMed database. The included studies involved adult patients who underwent IMV for at least 48 hours, investigating interventions such as inspiratory muscle training and early mobilization. Results indicated that these techniques significantly reduced the duration of mechanical ventilation and ICU stay. Additionally, there was a lower incidence of respiratory complications, such as ventilator-associated pneumonia. It was concluded that early and systematic application of physiotherapeutic interventions is effective in improving clinical outcomes, preventing complications, and accelerating the weaning process in critically ill patients. Future research should focus on standardizing physiotherapy protocols to further optimize clinical benefits.
