Introduction: Lower limb amputations (LL) are a serious public health problem, affecting patients' quality of life and generating a high number of cases in Brazil. The physical and biopsychosocial impact of amputations requires multidisciplinary monitoring, with physiotherapy playing a crucial role in postoperative adaptation and functional recovery of patients. Objective: To analyze, through a literature review, the importance of physiotherapy in pre-prosthetic rehabilitation in patients with unilateral transtibial amputation. Methods: This is a literature review study with searches performed in the databases of Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Pubmed, Virtual Health Library (BVS), Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS) and Google Scholar. The languages used for journal selection were English and Portuguese, covering articles with publication dates between 2012 and 2024. Results: Lower limb amputations represent a serious public health problem, with 254,811 cases registered in Brazil between 2012 and 2021, resulting in an average of 66 procedures per day. These amputations, which mainly affect men between 50 and 75 years of age due to vascular complications and diabetes, have a significant physical and biopsychosocial impact, impairing mobility and quality of life. Rehabilitation should be multidisciplinary, with physiotherapy playing a central role in promoting postoperative adaptations, functional recovery, and emotional support, highlighting the need for personalized approaches that consider the clinical conditions and social context of each patient. Conclusion: Evidence suggests that the effectiveness of rehabilitation interventions is directly related to the quality of multidisciplinary follow-up offered to amputee patients. Integrating physical and emotional aspects into rehabilitation not only improves functional outcomes but also promotes greater satisfaction and quality of life. Therefore, investing in well-structured rehabilitation programs tailored to individual needs should be a public health priority, ensuring that amputee patients can...
