Anxiety has an alarming prevalence in Brazil, as indicated by the World Health Organization (WHO), which highlights the country among those most affected by this problem. In this scenario, it is essential to understand the impact of the family anxiety cycle as a trigger for mental disorders. This study aims to investigate how anxiety in family environments influences mental illness in family members. The objectives include: analyzing aspects of family dynamics that contribute to the anxiety cycle, identifying mental disorders arising from this cycle and suggesting preventive interventions based on scientific studies. Methodologically, this is a qualitative bibliographic review, based on sources such as the book "Chemical Dependence and Bowen Theory" and recent articles (2019-2024). The review revealed that the cycle of family anxiety can lead to the development of disorders such as generalized anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Dysfunctional family dynamics, such as inadequate communication and lack of emotional support, have been identified as factors that perpetuate anxiety. Evidence-based interventions, such as systemic family therapy and education and support programs, have been shown to be effective in preventing and treating these disorders. It is concluded that addressing the cycle of family anxiety is crucial to improving the mental health of family members, and the implementation of early intervention programs, family support and public policies aimed at mental health is recommended.
