This article aims to understand facial biostimulation with poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA)-based fillers, addressing their efficacy and safety in aesthetic procedures. The use of PLLA has gained prominence as a long-lasting solution for facial rejuvenation, mainly due to its ability to stimulate collagen production, with effects that can last for up to 25 months. The review of previous studies revealed significant benefits of PLLA in collagen regeneration, contributing to the improvement of skin volume and firmness, essential to combat signs of aging. In addition, the results suggest that PLLA is biocompatible and has low rates of adverse effects, such as temporary swelling and redness, although inflammatory reactions may occur in some cases. The research also highlighted the importance of adequate injection techniques, such as the use of cannulas, to minimize risks such as nodule formation. Based on reviewed evidence, the article concludes that PLLA is an effective and safe alternative for facial rejuvenation, with appropriate clinical practice and ongoing patient assessment being crucial to ensure the best results.
