This article seeks to explore the drug trafficking scenario in Brazil, analyzing the historical development of legislation and the mechanisms implemented to combat it over the years. Based on an analysis of Law No. 11,343/2006, which established the National System of Public Policies on Drugs (SISNAD), the study discusses the evolution of criminal policy to combat drug trafficking and its impacts on society. In addition, it examines the challenges faced by the justice system and the strategies adopted by public security forces to combat drug trafficking, such as strengthening international cooperation, border control, and the use of advanced technologies. The article also addresses the social consequences of drug trafficking, highlighting the increase in crime, the effects on the prison population, and the social inequalities that perpetuate the involvement of young people in criminal networks. Finally, the work presents a critical analysis of the challenges faced by criminal drug policy in Brazil and possible alternatives to make the fight against drug trafficking more effective and humane.
