Introduction: Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is one of the most common psychiatric disorders, characterized by excessive worry and symptoms that impact quality of life. Its increasing prevalence and associated comorbidities demand a thorough analysis of diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. Objective: This article aims to review the current literature on GAD, focusing on diagnostic and therapeutic aspects. Methods: The research was conducted through a systematic search in databases such as PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar, covering the period from 2013 to 2024. A total of 2,000 articles were identified, of which 50 were included after applying inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results and Discussion: Accurate diagnosis of GAD is essential, and validated tools are fundamental for screening. Therapeutic interventions include cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and pharmacotherapy, with promising results when combined with complementary practices. The literature emphasizes the need for a multidisciplinary approach, considering individual characteristics and comorbidities. Conclusion: Research on GAD is vital for improving the understanding and treatment of the disorder. Continuous professional training and the implementation of integrated strategies can enhance the effectiveness of interventions, contributing to better clinical outcomes and an improved quality of life for patients.
