This study aims to analyze the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Curitiba and its metropolitan region, using data collected between 2012 and 2022, in order to identify the epidemiological profile and risk factors associated with virus transmission in the region. The introduction notes a significant increase in cases between 2021 and 2023, especially among young adults and heterosexuals, in a scenario of low condom use. The theoretical basis traces the evolution of HIV since the 1980s, addressing sexual transmission and barriers to diagnosis and treatment, such as the stigma associated with the disease. The study, of a descriptive and retrospective nature, uses data from DATASUS, respecting ethical standards. The results show a predominance of cases among men, mainly in the 20 to 34 age group, and show significant variations between municipalities. Despite the effectiveness of some public health policies, the study highlights the need for strategies targeted at vulnerable groups. Finally, the conclusion emphasizes the importance of improving prevention and treatment approaches to control the spread of HIV in the region.
