Most studies on emotions pay more attention to fear and anger. The literature on disgust, although timid, has nevertheless increased, for the most part, in English-speaking countries. In Brazil, publications about this emotion are still rare. Thus, the present research aims to carry out a Systematic Review in conjunction with descriptive statistics on disgust in order to present the situation of studies on this emotion in English, more specifically, in the PubMed database of the National Library of Medicine from United States. From the 32 texts selected, it can be seen that the majority of studies focus on behavioral and cognitive neuroscience and the relationship between this emotion and phobias. This emotion is linked to many mental disorders and a lack of understanding about disgust can become a barrier to therapeutic intervention, both for psychopathologies and prejudiced behaviors.
