Objective: To analyze the literature on HTLV disease in Brazil, its clinical signs and symptoms and medical diagnosis. Methods: An integrative literature review of articles was carried out in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (PubMed/MedLine) and Virtual Health Library (VHL) databases. The search took place from September to December 2023. Results: 14 articles met the selection criteria. The discussion about the Human T-Cell Leukemia Virus (HTLV) is extremely important, due to the proportion of the disease that is a serious public health problem worldwide. Brazil is the country with the highest number of infected individuals, with mother-to-child transmission being one of the main routes of contagion. Furthermore, it was also shown that HTLV infection remains relatively unknown to the general population, and even to health professionals, reinforcing the need for more research and health education actions. Conclusion: The results of this research highlight the importance of improving the dissemination of information about HTLV to the population. The lack of knowledge is directly related to the challenge of controlling the transmission of the virus. Adopting appropriate educational and prevention strategies is crucial for early diagnosis, reducing transmission and ensuring a better quality of life for affected individuals.
