Paracoccidioidomycosis is a fungal infection caused by Paracoccidioides brasiliensis, which can lead to severe complications, especially in immunocompromised individuals. This article reviews critical aspects of paracoccidioidomycosis, including its etiology, diagnosis, treatment, and the importance of multidisciplinary approaches in managing the disease. The infection can result in pulmonary, cutaneous, and mucosal sequelae. Early diagnosis, often carried out through laboratory and clinical tests, is essential for effective management and complication reduction. Treatment involves antifungal medications and may require surgical interventions in advanced cases. Collaborative approaches involving pulmonologists, infectious disease specialists, and dermatologists are crucial for optimizing clinical outcomes. Current research investigates new prevention and screening strategies, highlighting the complexity of managing paracoccidioidomycosis. This article aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of paracoccidioidomycosis and its implications for patient care.
