Smoking cessation is a crucial intervention in reducing the risk of lung cancer, a leading cause of cancer mortality worldwide. This integrative review aims to analyze the effectiveness of smoking cessation programs in reducing lung cancer incidence, focusing on the most effective behavioral and pharmacological strategies. Through the analysis of recent and relevant studies, several cessation methods were identified, including nicotine replacement therapies, bupropion, varenicline, and combined behavioral interventions. The review reveals that cessation programs have a significant impact on reducing lung cancer risk, especially when combined with behavioral support strategies. Furthermore, evidence suggests that early smoking cessation is associated with greater benefits in reducing cancer incidence. This review highlights the importance of implementing large-scale smoking cessation programs and the need for public policies that encourage cessation to improve long-term health outcomes.
